Kudaka Island – A Sacred Place of Ryukyu Mythology

Kudaka Island is a sacred site of Ryukyu mythology, said to be the place where Amamikiyo, the creator deity of the Ryukyu Islands, descended from the heavens to begin the creation of the land.

During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, Sefa-utaki—the most sacred site on Okinawa Main Island—served as a sacred place visited by kings on pilgrimage to Kudaka Island. It was believed to be the location that gathered the greatest spiritual power (seji) from Kudaka Island.
